How to use Teleprompter
- 1 Paste or type your script and set the font size, speed and colours.
- 2 Press Start, then use Space to play/pause and the arrow keys to change speed or nudge position.
- 3 Optionally turn on voice-tracking (Chrome/Edge) so the text follows your voice, mirror mode for a teleprompter rig, or the camera preview to frame yourself.
- 4 To control it from your phone, press Pair phone and scan the QR — the phone shows the same script in sync and can play/pause, change speed and seek.
- 5 Press Expand for full screen while you record.
Frequently asked questions
Is my script uploaded?
No. The script is stored only in your browser and never sent anywhere. It is also saved locally so it survives a page reload.
How does the phone remote work?
Your phone pairs over a direct connection between your two devices; the script and controls are sent device-to-device and only the pairing (a short code and connection details) uses our server. On strict networks (such as mobile data) the connection may relay through Cloudflare’s TURN service, which then sees your devices’ IP addresses. If the phone disconnects, the teleprompter keeps running.
How does voice-tracking work and is it private?
It uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition to advance the text as you read. In Chrome and Edge that sends microphone audio to the browser’s speech service (e.g. Google) to transcribe — so avoid it for sensitive material. Auto-scroll needs no microphone.
Which browsers support voice-tracking?
Chrome and Edge (desktop) support it. On Safari and Firefox the voice option is hidden, but adjustable auto-scroll still works.
Can I use it with a teleprompter (beam-splitter) rig?
Yes — turn on mirror mode to flip the text horizontally (and vertically if needed) so it reads correctly in the reflection.
Does it work offline?
Yes for auto-scroll — GoodWebTools is a PWA. Voice-tracking needs a connection because the browser’s speech service is online.
